Historique :	Ces quatre panneaux illustrant le poème de Paul Eluard ont été peints à Gif-sur-Yvette pour décorer la vente du Comité National des Ecrivains au vélodrome d'Hiver en octobre 1953. Un quatrième panneau, faisant partie de la même série, est conservé au musée Fernand Léger à Biot. Un copie en a été exécutée pour orner, avec les trois panneaux originaux, l'hôtel de ville d'Ivry-sur-Seine.
